What Membership in Your Local Home Builders Association Can Do For You

Builders, subcontractors, suppliers and other businesses associated with the home building industry can greatly benefit from membership in their local home builders association.

Membership in your local home builders association gives you automatic membership in the Home Builders Association of Alabama. And with membership comes many benefits including:

Worker’s Comp Coverage

A lawsuit due to an on-the-job injury could put you out of business. The Alabama Home Builders Self Insurers Fund provides workers’ compensation insurance to members with an up-front 25% discount, interest free payments and claims handled by a third-party administrator. At year end, dividends are paid back to eligible members with more than $20 million in dividends distributed in 2023. Click for more info.

Safety Services

On-the-job injuries cost time and money - for you and your employees. Keeping them safe is a good investment for both. Safety Services are available to members as part of participation in the Alabama Home Builders Self Insurers Fund and include employee education videos, onsite training, jobsite safety inspections, guidance in the event of an OSHA visit and resources in Spanish. Click for more info.

Continuing Ed at a Discounted Rate

Membership means you get a discount on Continuing Education - mandatory to maintain your Alabama state builder’s license. CE credits can be earned both in person and online. Click for more info. Click for more info.

Healthcare Coverage Designed for Smaller Businesses

Medical, dental and vision insurance is available for you and your employees. Created for smaller organizations, this coverage plan is designed to save you, the small business owner thousands of dollars each year. A range of plan options are available with medical and dental provided by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama. To enroll, you must be a member of your local home builders association and submit a Participating Employer Agreement. Click for more info.

Professional Development, Connections and Committees

Have an unfamiliar business issue and not sure where to go? It’s likely that a fellow member can help. As a member, you are networked with every member of every local association in the state, invaluable for those new to the home building industry as well as seasoned members. And if you are looking to develop your professional and leadership skills, there are opportunities at both the local and state level through committees and councils.

Free Contract and Warranty Language

The Home Builders Association of Alabama has invested more than $100,000 to develop sample contract and warranty language. This information is offered online and free to members only.

Stay Up to Date

Changes in the industry affect your business and livelihood. Staying up to date is critical. Statewide meetings are held three times a year (twice on the gulf coast) where members can attend sessions to learn and stay informed. Many members bring along their families making it an excellent opportunity to learn, network and have fun.

Rebates

As a member of your local and state home builders associations, you can earn rebates on products you are probably already using. It is easy to participate. Just register, submit a rebate claim and receive a rebate check. The average rebate per builder/remodeler who participated in 2021 was more than $1500. Click for more info.
